Gina Conroy - Experience Writing 2022
Join Gina Conroy as she guides you through finding your unique voice, plotting your novel, and then cutting the fat (editing!) your work in progress! Here are the topics she'll guide you through:
- Finding Your VoiceWhat makes a writer stand out? It’s voice. A fabulously written novel aside, what differentiates you from other authors is how you tell your story through your unique voice. In this interactive session, you will learn the difference between a writer’s and a character’s voice. You will explore your unique life’s theme and the overall message you are meant to share with the world. Then through writing exercises, we will practice finding your voice so those destined to hear your message can find you.
- Cutting the Fat from Your Work in ProgressWhether you’re a new or experienced author, learning the art of self-editing is the key to keeping your readers’ attention and touching their hearts with your message. In this interactive workshop, you will learn to write tight, so your message can be heard by the heart of your reader.
- Release the Novel 1 - Crafting Your One-sentence Pitch SummaryYour one-sentence summary is not only your roadmap to keeping your story on track, but it’s also a necessary tool to pitch your story to an agent or editor. In this workshop, you will learn to write a powerful one-sentence summary that will stand out and capture the reader’s attention.
- Release the Novel 2 - Creating Dynamic Characters with your B.E.S.T. F.R.I.E.N.D.Your real life best friend is someone you like to spend time with. Think of your protagonist as your story B.E.S.T. F.R.I.E.N.D. , someone you will need to spend a lot of time with to discover and tell their story. In this workshop, we will use my B.E.S.T. F.R.I.E.N.D. worksheet to learn everything you need to know about your protagonist to craft a powerful and page-turning story.
- Release the Novel 3 - G.O. F.I.S.H.: How to Hook your Reader from Page One.Just like a fish on a hook can’t swim away, as writers we need to write great “hooks” (opening paragraphs) so our readers won’t get away! If you don’t hook your reader by the first few paragraphs, there’s a chance the reader might not get past the first page. In this workshop, you will learn the G.O. F.I.S.H. elements that every story needs to hook your reader.
About Gina Conroy
Growing up, Gina Conroy observed the world around her and didn’t feel it would welcome what she had to say. Standing silently on the sidelines, she watched others be self expressed and wished she had the courage to speak. When she discovered the comfort of the written word at a young age, that’s when she began to develop her voice. Later as she was published in nonfiction and fiction, she discovered the written word had the power to touch, stir, and reach from the depths of one soul to another. How could she keep that to herself?
Since then, Gina has hosted writers conferences, presided over the local chapter of ACFW, and has even hosted a weekly podcast called Teen Writers Publish for teens of all ages. Although she’s lost count of her publishing credits over the decades, she hasn’t lost sight of why she continues to teach, speak, and coach: to inspire others to find their voice, be self-expressed and release the stories inside of them.
